2006. dir. Alfonso Cuaron, starring Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, Michael Caine.
Seen it before? No
So it's the future, and nobody can have children anymore for some reason that is never explained. The entire world has basically gone to shit, but this one woman is pregnant, so there's lots of gunfights as she tries to escape government attention. The director seemed to be showing off a bit here with the shots lasting several minutes (like the scene where Julianne Moore gets shot) but it's pretty awesome.

showing off?!!! the ambush scene is great filmmaking 101. never has there been an action scene is such an intimate, enclosed setting like a car with that much movement. on one hand it is now technologically possible to do. on the other it is the seamless meeting of technology and story telling. i think the other great point about Children is the fact that the first new mother is a Black woman. the film challenges our sensibilities about not only the role of government or what defines a dystopia but also what assumptions do we make about gender and race. its a smart, dark, and hopeful film.
